Kavala Residence - Belgrad, SERBIA

Paolo Volpis Architects took over a project right at the breaking grounds to redesign and create an addition to more than double the residence size.

The Owner wanted a sleek, minimal and bold building and relied into a junior designer from Russia that delivered something that he thought was “underwhelming” and without a story or functional expression.

Our firm had therefore the challenge to adjust and define a design language making use of some elements that were inherited from the previous design.

The truncated rectangle seemed to be a good element to adopt and use in the architectural and functional expression, by rotating it both in plan and elevation to maintain a sense of lack of gravity while the different modules climb up the hill.
